From touching down at the airport, you'll be met by the Velocamp support vehicle that will collect you along with your luggage and your bike box if necessary, and whisk you back to the Velocamp villa. It's a short 25 minute journey to Alaro, where you'll be met by the team along with the private chef, who has prepared welcome snacks for you including sandwiches, cakes, and orange juice.
After this, you'll take a tour of the villa which will be your home for the next week. You'll be presented with your Velocamp team cycling kit and your 4KAAD eyewear, shown to your room, and introduced to your teammates, who right now are strangers but by tomorrow will be good friends. Once everybody has settled in, we'll run through an in-depth welcome briefing, covering the villa, the daily schedule, and what you can expect over the next seven nights.
In the evening, we'll complete our first Velocamp team dinner, presented by the chef. The first dinner is always full of questions and lot’s of conversation, everybody getting to know each other and realizing just how much they already have in common. At some point during the evening, all of the bikes will arrive, and naturally some time is spent after dinner exploring the features of your brand new Canyon Endurace road bike. We'll also fit your pedals and saddle if required, ready for the next morning and our first ride day.
Breakfast is normally scheduled for 6.30am, always perfectly nutritionally balanced to prepare you for the day ahead. Some of the things you can expect to see are homemade granola, oats, protein pancakes, maybe some French toast, lots of fruit, yogurts, juices, and of course good coffee. Over breakfast, we'll complete an in depth ride briefing about the ride ahead, including distances, elevation, specific climbs, as well as where the feed stops will take place.
We try to be on the road by 8am, which sees us get to all of the top spots before most people have finished their breakfast, and also helps us keep to a schedule that allows everybody plenty of time back at the villa enjoying the pool and the recovery facilities. Our shortest ride can see us return around 12 or 12.30, with our longer days seeing us back anywhere between 2 and 3.30, depending on the pace we're moving at.
We don't stop at any coffee shops or cafes along the routes, as we're fully supported by the Velocamp support van, meaning we never have to wait or queue and everything we want is on tap. Ice cold drinks, freshly made sandwiches, electrolytes, fruit, gels, bars, muffins, Haribo, it's all there and keeps you moving throughout the day.
Once we arrive back at the villa, we're again welcomed by fresh cakes, quiche, or pizza, whatever the chef has decided to prepare that day, as well as protein rich smoothies. We typically spend around an hour sitting around the table outside by the pool, enjoying the snacks and discussing the highlights of the ride. Then it's shower time before spending the afternoon lazing around the pool, enjoying the compression boots, or maybe taking a short stroll just a few minutes from the villa into the main town of Alaró for a coffee.
Our professional physiotherapist arrives at the villa early afternoon and works his way through the schedule, delivering world class massage to each of our clients, which can also be extended past the included 20 minute time allocation to work on any specific issues. And honestly, the feedback we regularly receive about the transformations our physio is able to achieve is mind blowing.
We typically sit down to dinner around 7pm, which depending on the time of year can be served outside on the terrace, and will be decided by the chef. Imagine a variety of cuisine ranging from curries to tacos, and sea bass to steak, always finished off with a dessert and good conversation, before an early night ready for the next day.
On the last night, we celebrate the week with a special barbecue poolside, where we can look back on the week and enjoy a few celebratory drinks. The next morning, the Velocamp shuttle will deliver everybody back to the airport to catch their flights.
